Chicago, February 14, 1929: On Valentine’s Day, Al Capone’s henchmen shot and killed seven members of the North Side Gang. An act of revenge in the time of prohibition that was part of a gang war between two rival criminal syndicates. Although there were no celebrities among the victims, the bloodbath received extensive interestin the press and Al Capone became a media star. After several brief incarcerations, he was finally sentenced to 11 years in prison. But never charged for his murders.
